The apex Igbo organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, yesterday, rose from its Imeobi (highest decision organ) meeting in Enugu and called on the Federal Government to release Nnamdi Kanu, the detained Director of Radio Biafra and leader of IPOB, unconditionally.
However, the meeting, which was billed to hold with representatives of MASSOB and IPOB was boycotted by the pro-Biafra groups.
Ohanaeze‘s directive was contained in a communique jointly signed by the National President of Ohanaeze, Chief Gary Enwo-Igariwey and the Secretary General, Dr. Joe Nworgu.
They said that agitations and public protests over Biafra had been exacerbated by the detention of Mr. Kanu, the director of Radio Biafra. At the meeting attended by representatives of both the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, and the Independent People of Biafra, IPOB, in Enugu yesterday, Ohanaeze further expressed displeasure over the continued incarceration of Kanu, saying that it was gravely concerned over current wide-spread public Biafra agitations in states of the South-East and some other states of Nigeria for the actualization of Biafra.

Nigeria got their campaign at the CAF U-23 Championship off to a shaky but winning start yesterday, edging Mali 3-2 in their Group B clash at the Stade Caroline Faye in Mbour.
A game of two halves, saw the Nigerians scoring three goals in the first half, while Mali got the second half, netting twice but falling short of nicking the equaliser, which they truly deserved on the evidence of their performance and second half display.
This is a match that Coach Samson Siasia would quickly want to forget as he attempts to qualify Nigeria for next summer Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro.

Paramilitary pensioners seek review of 2004 Pension Scheme Act
By Gabriel Enogholase
BENIN—PENSIONERS from the paramilitary forces in Nigeria have called on the Federal Government to review the 2004 Pension Act which captured those who were not eligible, with a view to returning them to the former pension scheme and their gratuity reimbursed. The pensioners, in a statement in Benin, Edo State, weekend, by Mr. P. Hiaghana, at the end of their meeting, accused the Fifth National Assembly of foisting on unsuspecting Nigerians, an allegedly reprehensive, oppressive and discriminative Pension Act devoid of fairness to all.
Noting that the Contributing Pension Scheme was a laudable programme, it said that the 2004 Pension Act from inception was hinged on deceit and self serving motives rather than to address the problems it was meant to solve.

MPC measures not sufficient for economic growth – Analysts
By Babajide Komolafe
The decisions of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) to reduce the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) to 11 percent and cut the Cash Reserve Requirement of banks to 20 percent will not automatically translate to economic growth, said economic analysts. Faced with the slow economic growth in the three quarters of the year, the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) at the end of its meeting on Tuesday decided to relax monetary policy in a bid to boost growth. Consequently the MPC reduced the MPR from 13.0 percent to 11.0 percent; reduced the Cash Reserve Requirement (CRR) from 25.0 percent to 20.0 percent; and fixed the Asymmetric corridor of +2.0 percent and -7.0 percent around the MPR.
Flour Mills Nigeria: One step away from loss
By Mike Uzor
Flour Mills Nigeria showed an exceptional rise in profit at the end of its second quarter trading yet it is facing operating pressure that leaves it just one step away from a loss. The company’s 450% rise in after tax profit in the second quarter is an exceptional earnings record in a year of a general corporate earnings lull. With an after tax profit of N24.02 billion at half year, the company has already made about three times the full year profit figure it posted at the end of the preceding financial year.
The company’s impressive profit show however came almost exclusively from profit realised from disposal of investment in associates. Without the windfall, Flour Mills would have reported a meager profit of N287 million in the second quarter. That is the only contribution from the company’s normal operations to the otherwise robust bottom line picture displayed at the end of the second quarter. That was all the company saved for shareholders out of sales revenue of N177.58 billion generated at the end of the second quarter.
Is there nothing good about the so called illegal refineries?
By Omoh Gabriel
Last week I talked about the technological opportunity the so-called illegal refineries is offering the nation that is being thrown away. There were many Nigerians who felt the same way. But one particular reader suggested a part 2 that should focus on the danger the destruction of tons of illegally refined products is having on the coastal, as well as the entire Niger- Delta region. Federal government law enforcement agents have engaged in an endless battle with crude oil thieves.
The joint military task force set up by government in this regard is to arrest and prosecute these thieves. I am not so sure that considering the impact oil spill has on the environment, the task force was empowered to destroy crude oil and products recovered from these so-called illegal refiners. But regular reports have it that such recovered products are usually destroyed.

Agric workers threaten strike over allowance
By Oboh Agbonkhese
LAGOS — Workers in the agricultural sector, on the platform of Nigerian Council of the International Union of Food, Agricultural, Hotel, Restaurants, Catering, Tobacco and Allied Workers’ Association, IUF, have threatened industrial unrest if efforts at making the Federal Government extend the benefits of hazard allowance to them failed.
They lamented that while their counterparts in the livestock and veterinary sub-sector, categorised as health workers, had been enjoying the allowance, the Agricultural and Allied Employees’ Union of Nigeria, AAEUN, had been negotiating for same benefit for the past 15 years without success.
At a briefing in Lagos, Chairman of Nigerian Council of IUF, Mr. Leke Success, said if President Muhammadu Buhari was really interested in diversifying the economy and making agriculture the pillar of national growth and development as he promised, there was need to implement hazard allowance for agricultural workers to motivate the workforce and drive policy implementation.
Sponsorship: MTN and manner of giving back
By Princewill Ekwujuru
Sponsorship is the fastest growing form of marketing globally. Therefore the primary reason companies include sponsorship as part of their marketing plans is to increase brand awareness, whether it’s establishing or strengthening the brand, or to change their brand image that subsists.
However, by associating a brand with an event or entity that the target audience views positively is by way of shaping attitudes and helping to generate a positive reaction to the brand. Ultimately, the goal is to improve how a brand is perceived by its target audience. This happens in a variety of ways.
For this reason a brand needs to build relevant memory structures that make it easier to notice, recognise, recall and hence…. of course…buy. This is the brand’s mental availability. several other brands have keyed into this phrase to strengthen and build top- of- the- mind- brand.

The Bad Drivers, The Custom Officers And The Outcome (pics)
This incident happened on friday, the 27th of November at asaba. I was heading to the MTN office along the expressway when I saw about 5 Brand new 2015 model Land cruisers and a Hilux van being chased by some Custom guys; those custom officers were on Pathfinder truck. You dont need a prophet to be told that those cars were coming in from lagos or even Cotonou. It was learnt that those cars were driven by professional 'fire-wor' chauffeurs that are ready to kill any officer (police inclusive) if they are stopped at any check point. Those cars do not have custom papers and necessary clearance from NCS.
