US partners Nigeria on technology transfer

The United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. James Entwistle, says the US is ready to partner with Nigeria in the area of biotechnology and other areas of mutual interest to both countries.
He stated this on Tuesday during a familiarization visit to the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, in Abuja.
Entwistle said the US is also ready to partner with Nigeria in the area of electricity which he said the solution lies in the hands of the private sector and urged Nigerian government to create the enabling environment

The Ambassador said his country has assisted Nigeria in nuclear energy support, adding: “What we have done in nuclear energy in the past with Nigeria has been related to safety and we are very committed to increase the power sector through our Power Africa Programme and that is more with increasing generation through the private sector.”
In his response, the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu expressed delight with the visit and solicited for technology transfer in the area of biotechnology, Innovation and agriculture.
He said the ministry will help Nigeria diversify the economy from her present mono economy status, saying that there is no reason why Nigeria can’t feed itself.
