First female President of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors emerged at the 26th Biennial Conference/General Meeting

The BGM 2015 was five (5) days event with intense deliberations and discussions as the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors x-rayed the theme “Politics, Policies and National Development – The Role of Professionals” at its 26th Biennial Conference/ General Meeting which held recently at the Oriental Hotel, Lekki, Lagos.

The event ushered in Mrs Mercy Torkwase Iyortyer (FNIQS) as the 23rd and first ever female president of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors and the inauguration of the National Executive Council. She took over from the immediate past president Mallam Murtala Aliyu who have successfully piloted the affairs of the Institute in the last two (2) years.

In a seemingly male-dominated profession the emergence of the first female president reflects the all-encompassing, robustness and the level playing field imbibed by the Institute. As the new president and National Executive Council members take over the mantle of leadership, hopes and aspirations are high that the Institute is set so soar to even greater heights. Her investiture on Saturday had in attendance the Governor of Benue State (her home state), Dr. Samuel Orton as Special Guest of Honour.
